Robert M. Jarvis, M.D.

Dr. Jarvis received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and complete his psychiatry residency at UAMS, serving as chief resident his last year there. He earned his B.A. degree in psychology and music from Trinity University at San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Jarvis’ interests are in mood disorders, including major depression and bipolar disorder, and he specializes in management of treatment resistant and treatment refractory depression.

After three years on the faculty at UAMS, Dr. Jarvis entered private practice after spending three years on the UAMS faculty. His outpatient practice is located at Arkansas Psychiatric Clinic, and his inpatient practice is at The Bridgeway hospital, where he is the Director of the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) services.

Dr. Jarvis is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Is chemical and alcohol addiction considered to be a mental health issue?

Yes. It is also important to note that frequently, patients unconsciously use substances to manage how they feel. There may well be underlying mental health issues that need to be addressed once the chemical dependency problems are resolved and vice versa.
